The Long & Winding Road
I've often joked I've taken the scenic route to get to where I am today, and I can safely say I'll stay on that scenic route on my way to where I'm going. Why? Because that scenic route features the unique stops and sights along the way, and it only locks in the notion that it's not the destination, but the journey that matters. 1980s
This was as close as I got to playing professional sports!
With my athletic dreams dashed, I started to get pulled into the magic of broadcasting, especially television as I grew up in Tampa, Florida.
1995-1999
While studying at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, I fell in love with radio, working at the student station WVUA-FM as well as several local stations. My experience with different formats and two summer internships in Tampa was invaluable.
2006-2015
My dream of becoming a sports broadcaster merged with my fandom for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, as I was hired to be the team's radio game day host. I would add managerial duties just two years later.
2019
While I loved my work with the Lightning, the organization decided to do some major restructuring in management. This allowed me to create my business, SammonSez, LLC.
I provided streaming consultation to the NHL's New Jersey Devils, shared career guidance with young broadcasters, and even did TV color analysis for the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears!
2022
The spring of 2022 was exciting for me as I completed my graduate studies in marketing at the University of Alabama with a 4.0 GPA.
I also returned to the sports realm as a part-time data tracking operator with Major League Baseball, working primarily at Arizona Diamondbacks games at Chase Field.
1995
I graduated from Armwood High School in June as an honors student. While leading the "ATV" crew, I won an award for the "Best Overall Feature" and "Best News Feature" for a behind-the-scenes tour of Wheel of Fortune on WTSP-TV's 10 Ultimate.
1999-2006
While completing my studies remotely for graduation in 2000, I began my professional broadcasting career back in Tampa as an executive producer at 620 WDAE. I would also get to be "Mr. DJ" at sister FM stations on the weekends.
2008-2019
Starting as the Lightning's Manager of Radio Programming, I would work my way up to the position of Director of Broadcasting & Programming.
I helped grow the Lightning's radio network while overseeing all day-to-day operations of the broadcast department. I created the Lightning Radio digital footprint with the Power Play Podcast, the 24/7 streaming network Lightning Power Play, and the sister station USF Bulls Unlimited for the University of South Florida.
Video would come back prominently in my life, as I helped create and was the executive producer for the live-streaming Morning Skate Show on the Lightning digital platforms and Fox Sports Sun's linear channel.
2020
I joined the SkyView Networks crew in September 2020 as an executive producer of the Notre Dame athletics broadcasts, including football, men's and women's basketball, and men's ice hockey. My role grew to Skyview Networks' Manager of Business Development, Strategy in 2021.
2023
I joined the Deer Valley Unified School District as the district's Digital Content Manager. I oversee the district's website, social media, and audio and video productions. I also coordinate and lead more than 40 individual school webmasters in making their school websites better for parents and students to use.
My work with education can also be seen at the collegiate level, as I am an adjunct instructor with Southern New Hampshire University teaching Applied Marketing Strategies and Digital Media for the Business School.
